Developing Swimming Skills
Seasonal swim groups are perfect for beginner swimmers or swimmers looking to develop their skills. Highlander Aquatics has two seasonal swim groups for 1st through 8th-grade students, White Group and Green Group.
White Group
The White Group is the introductory level of Highlander Aquatics and is for swimmers with little to no competitive swimming experience.
The group's goal is to emphasize stroke development and body awareness for each of the four competitive strokes. Swimmers develop outstanding freestyle and backstroke skills through numerous drills and technique work. They also learn streamlines and flat dives, and breaststroke and butterfly skills are also introduced.
Swimmers have the option to participate in local developmental meets that are offered throughout the season. Swimmers must be in the first grade or older and must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. White Group swimmers practice for 45 minutes.
Green Group
The Green Group includes swimmers who have moved up from the White Group. Swimmers may also move after a stroke and practice evaluation. This group reinforces the proper techniques of all four competitive strokes.
Swimmers are instructed on racing procedures, such as start and turns, and the rules and regulations involved in competitive swimming. Interval training is introduced and used for the repetition and conditioning of an acquired skill.
Swimmers participate in B-C type meets and interval training, but stroke technique remains the emphasis. Swimmers perform limited dryland training, working on coordination and core strength training.
Swimmers can compete in USA-sanctioned meets and local developmental meets offered throughout the year. Green Group swimmers practice for 55 minutes.
