The Highlander Aquatic Club Age Group Program has a primary
goal to teach our team members to make a commitment to coming
to practice, being here on time, taking instruction from their
coach, and the value of hard work and its relationship to achievement
and success. We
do this in an atmosphere that is both positive and fun.
Our AGE GROUP program is subdivided into four separate
groups, the Bronze Group, the Silver Group, the Gold Group and
the Blue Group. Each group will give each child the opportunity
to develop those ideals of sportsmanship, self-esteem, and pride
that will serve them throughout their life.

White
Group
If
your child has little or no competitive swimming experience,
they will first begin in the SwimAmerica
Lesson Program or the White group. These
groups are the introductory level of Highlander Aquatics. The
goal of these groups is to emphasize stroke development and
body awareness for each of the four competitive strokes. Swimmers
will develop outstanding freestyle and backstroke skills through
numerous drills and technique work. They learn streamlines and
flat dives. Breaststroke and Butterfly kick are introduced.
Workouts for the White group are offered at various
times Monday - Friday with the option of USA Swimming and/or local
developmental swim meets held throughout the year.
Green
Group
From the White Group, a swimmer will move
to the Green group where
he/she will learn the proper techniques of all four competitive
strokes: Butterfly,
Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle.
They will be instructed on racing procedures such as
starts, turns, and the rules and regulations involved in competitive
swimming. As a
part of this instruction, interval training might be introduced
and used for the purpose of repetition of an acquired skill
as well as for conditioning. They participate in B-C type meets
and interval training but stroke technique remains the emphasis.
Swimmers perform some limited dryland training, working on coordination
and core strength. Workouts are offered at various times
Monday - Saturday with the option of USA Swimming and/or
local developmental swim meets throughout the year.
Black
Group
This
group is designed for those swimmers who have a solid understanding
for the four competitive strokes and are ready to begin a more
involved conditioning program.
The importance of proper stroke technique is stressed;
however, several practices per week will offer challenging training
sets. Swimmers
have increased demands in swimming yardage and workout attendance.
This group is geared toward 14 and unders who wish to focus
their major athletic attention on swimming.
Workouts are offered Monday – Friday & Saturday for the
Black group and swimmers are encouraged to attend all meets
that Highlander Aquatics schedules.
Competitive
swimming is a sport which develops a work ethic, self-discipline,
and goal-setting. It
also encourages family involvement. As part of the team, we
encourage you to become involved in making Highlander Aquatics
the best.
